The most specific schedule anyone publishes

Most listings for these islands sell a duration and leave the rest to the day. This one names the times: meet inside Seeb Marina at 08:15, briefing at the boats, 25 minutes across on the Shaheen, two snorkel sites, back at the marina around 13:00.

That matters for two reasons. Morning departures are the calmest — the wind builds through the day here, and reviewers on other boats describe choppy afternoon returns. And a 13:00 finish leaves you a whole afternoon in Muscat rather than a day written off.

Peter from the United Arab Emirates, May 2026, is worth reading in full because he is both positive and specific: "Always take the morning trip, not the afternoon one, the weather will always be better. Rent the GoPro if you don't have one. We should have moved at 8:15, we stayed till 9, which affected our timing at the island." Departures can slip. Arrive on time anyway.

What 3.5 hours on site buys

The published itinerary is a 30-minute speedboat leg, 3.5 hours of snorkeling and marine-life viewing at the reserve, then the 30-minute leg home. Two different sites are named in the description, with snacks and soft drinks served between them.

Between 1 November and 30 April that block can include beach time on the white sand; from 1 May to 31 October it is all water, because the islands close for turtle nesting. The operator describes the reserve as a nesting site for both hawksbill and green turtles and a bird sanctuary, which is exactly what the Environment Authority protects it for.

One practical note for the arrival: all guests pass the marina security gate and turn right to the jetty where the boats are moored. It is not obvious from the car park.

The family case

Three years is the lowest minimum age in this comparison. Life jackets are carried for children and non-swimmers as standard rather than on request, the crossing is the shortest anyone publishes, and the boat is shaded — three things that decide whether a small child enjoys the day or endures it.

You want the most water for the least money, you are travelling with young children, or you want the morning sea rather than the afternoon chop. It is also the trip to take if you want the permit question settled in writing before you arrive.
